4.0 Quake Rattles Bodie; Light Quakes in Bishop, Mammoth
by George Shirk

A light earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale shook the sparsely populated Bodie Hills at 1:33 Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Two light aftershocks occurred in the same area at about daybreak.

Meanwhile, after a weeklong series of microearthquakes along the Hilton Creek Fault last week, Bishop was hit with a smallish 2.3 microearthquake at 6:18 a.m. Monday. That quake occurred in the series of faults in the Volcanic Tablelands.

The 4.0 Bodie quake occurred at 1:33 a.m. Its epicenter was just to the east of the Mono Lake Fault, 12 miles south-southeast of Bodie, 14 miles east-northeast of Lee Vining, 22 miles southeast of Bridgeport and 30 miles north of Mammoth.

The quake was at a depth of 9.1 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

So far, no damage has been reported.
