Road Cyclists of Mammoth, Rejoice!
July 14, 2005

Man About Town
Road cyclists of Mammoth, give thanks!
Starting July 18, and continuing for approximately two months, an engineering road survey crew will be working along the Mammoth Scenic (Escape) Road, between State Highway 203 and U.S. Highway 395.
This survey work precedes the design phase for future reconstruction of the road (date unannounced). The main emphasis of the reconstruction is to provide shoulder widening along the entire Scenic (Escape) Loop, due to the increasing popularity of bicycle traffic in the summer.
It will also provide better sight distance at critical road intersections and adjusted alignment to accommodate wider shoulders. Reconstruction of the Mammoth Scenic Loop is being funded by the Federal Highway Administration in cooperation with the Town of Mammoth Lakes and the Inyo National Forest.
The survey crew will be working on both sides of the road, with “Survey Crew Working” warning signs posted in advance to notify drivers of the crew’s location. The public is asked to reduce vehicle speeds in the survey area and observe posted speed limits.
