The Volcom Brothers Skate Park, currently under construction in the Trails neighborhood of Mammoth, has grown from a 22,000 sq. ft, single-bowl skate park into a 42,000-sq. ft., double-bowl facility, Park director Jane Baer informed the Town Council.
The park, she said, will be the second-largest skate park in the U.S., smaller than a skate park in Louisville, Ky.
"We had the land, so we just built it out," she said.
The skate park is being built by volunteers, with materials paid for by donations.
Baer, who can been seen pouring cement and raking it smooth most days, said the park is 90 percent funded and should have complete funding by August 1.
It is to open on Sept. 1, with a Grand Opening ceremony on Sept. 24. She said the ceremony most likely will include members of the Burton Snowboard Team as well as other celebrities.
