Inyo National Forest Axes 42 Jobs Here

A river of blood is running through the Inyo National Forest as the feds brought down the axe on 42 positions last week.
In a move called a “reorganization,” the Inyo National Forest (Bishop and Mammoth) simply wiped out the jobs, 23 of which were filled at the time, according to Inyo Superintendent Jeff Bailey,
Eight employees took jobs that were funded. Three employees were reassigned, five were approved for buy-out or early retirement and four were just out-and-out laid off.
Three others transferred out of the area.
Bailey tried hard to put a decent face on the wipeout, saying in a press release,
“We feel that we have been as successful as possible in staffing our highest priority work, as well as working within employee placement processes to place employees in funded positions with a minimum of disruption.”
Key words: “as possible.”
