Two-time Olympic silver medalist Danny Kass of Mammoth on Wednesday, July 11 took home the $10,000 top spot in the Abominable Snow Jam halfpipe competition at Mt. Hood.
Kass put together a flawless run that included back-to-back 1080s and an alley-oop backside 720. Backing up Kass was Kevin Pearce (Norwich, VT) followed by Tuesday's quarterpipe Best Trick winner Scotty Lago (Seabrook, NH), who continued to style it out on the 22-foot halfpipe scultped by Planet Snow Designs.
Gretchen Bleiler (Aspen, CO) got experimental Wednesday, unloading a brand new contest run to win the Abominable Snow Jam halfpipe at Mt. Hood. The 2006 Olympic silver medalist linked a frontside alley-oop, frontside 540, backside 540 and a frontside 720 to take first place and $5,000.
Fellow U.S. Snowboarding rider Clair Bidez (Minturn, CO) trumped the women's field with the Best Trick, stomping a huge frontside 900 good enough for a new Mac Book Pro and third place behind 2002 Olympic gold medalist Kelly Clark the Vermonter who rides out of Mammoth.
