Lack of early season snow has delayed the scheduled openings of the ski runs off Canyon and Eagle lodges, the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area announced Wednesday, Nov. 21.
The new dates for the openings, which traditionally are around the Thanksgiving Day holiday, were unknown, a ski area spokesperson said.
So far, Mammoth has one lift operating (Chair 1/Broadway Express), although snowmakers were busy this week coating Sesame Street (Discovery Chair) as well.
Warm temperatures and little snow this fall mirror the opening of last year, when winter was tardy in arriving.
Mammoth Mountain will be offering discounted adult lift tickets for $35 until more terrain is available, the spokesperson said.
Mammoth has received just 16 inches of snow, and just six inches in November, according to the ski area's snowfall history Web site.
Even so, the ski area claimed an 8-to-14-inch base on Broadway, mostly with artificial snow.
