Mammoth Is Interesting

Mammoth is 82 percent sold out for Christmas Week, with 10 days left for visitors to scramble for available lodging, according to figures released by the Mammoth Tourism Bureau.

The figures reflect reservations made or Dec. 26-31. For the weekdays following, Jan. 1-6, the town is 67 percent sold out, the figures showed.

For the short range outlook, Mammoth will fill to 33 percent this weekend (Dec. 14-15) and stay at 31 percent for the weekdays following.

Snow is forecast to begin on Sunday night and continue through the week, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. The full forecast is as follows:

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 36. West wind around 5 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 15. Southwest wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 27. South wind around 10 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 16. South wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 28. Breezy, with a southwest wind between 10 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Sunday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21.

Monday: A 40 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 25.

Monday Night: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 21.

Tuesday: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 24.

Tuesday Night: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 18.

Wednesday: A chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 28.

Wednesday Night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19.

Thursday: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 30.
