With snow on the way to supplement a base of manufactured snow, Mammoth Mountain Ski Area will open Little Eagle Lodge on Thursday, Dec. 20, a resort official said.
The opening, which will affect Chair 15/Eagle Express and Chairs 13 and 14, is due to coincide with a storm system that began early Monday with light snowfall and will continue through Thursday night.
Snow accumulations of 12 to 14 inches are expected with the first wave, according to the National Weather Service, with snow intensity expected to increase on Tuesday and Tuesday night.
The weather service set the chances of snow at 100 percent for Monday night and Tuesday, with 90 percent chance of a snow on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, there is a 70 percent chance, the weather service said.
In addition, wind gusts measuring up to 60 miles an hour will accompany the snowfall, with gusts of up to 90 miles an hour over the Sierra ridges.
