In spite of a balmy autumn and not much measurable snow, Mammoth Mountain will open for skiing and boarding as planned on Thursday, Nov. 8, a ski hill spokesperson said.
Mammoth Mountain will open Broadway Express with service to the trail Broadway at 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning said Laura Johnson, the communications manager for the ski area.
Johnson said snowmaking crews have been adding to the natural snowfall as temperatures permit and more terrain will open as soon as possible.
"Skiers and riders will enjoy the first turns of the season on an 8-14 inch base of natural and manmade snow," she said in a press release, adding that some rail and jib features also will be available.
Mammoth is the first ski area in California to open, she said.
