Mammoth will be hit with gusty winds, snow and possibly rain today and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
One to five inches of snow could fall on Saturday as a cold front moves from the coast over the area.
Meanwhile, southwest to west winds will increase to 15 to 25 miles an hour with gusts reaching 45 miles an hour. Over the Sierra crest, gusts will reach 60 to 80 miles an hour, forecasters said in a special weather statement that was issued on Friday, Sept. 28.
Snow levels will start above 8,000 feet ahead of the front, then drop to around 6,000 feet as it moves through.
There is the potential of three to five inches of snow above 7,000 feet. The weather service said there is a possibility that highways 50, 395, 4, 49, 88, 89, 108 and 120 (Tioga Pass) could be affected by the weather system.
The weather service advised motorists to be prepared for winter driving conditions.
