Mammoth Is Interesting
Rahlves Here For McCoy Classic
by Mammoth Local Staff

Daron Rahlves, widely regarded as the most successful American speed racer of all time, will appear at the Dave McCoy College Classic March 16-17 at Mammoth Mountain.

Rahlves, a three-time Olympian who retired at the end of last ski season after a disappointing performance at the Torino games, will attend the cocktail reception at the Mammoth Ski Museum on Friday, March 16, then will ski Saturday with event participants between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., according to event organizers.

Rahlves, a Walnut Creek (Bay Area) native who skis out of Sugar Bowl, was educated at the Green Mountain Valley School in Vermont and currently resides in Truckee. He last skied competitively at Mammoth during the U.S. National Alpine Championships in 2005.

He has won seven U.S. national titles and 12 World Cup victories, including the downhill at the 2004 Hahnenkamm at Kitzbül -- the first American to win that race.

Rahlves joins fimmaker Warren Miller, a longtime McCoy friend, at the annual event.
