Mammoth Is Interesting

Mammoth is deep, deep deep into the fall shoulder season, with the town visitor occupancy rate continuing to hover at 22 percent for the coming weekend.
That figure, which matched last week's number, will drop even further -- to 11 percent -- for the weekdays following.
Meanwhile, forecasters at the National Weather Service in Reno are projecting beautiful autumn weather for the high country, although there is no sign of snow in advance of the Nov. 8 scheduled opening of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.
The full forecast is as follows:
Friday Afternoon: Sunny, with a high near 53. South wind between 10 and 15 mph.
Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 31. South wind between 5 and 10 mph.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 56. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 34. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 61. North wind around 5 mph becoming south.
Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 35. Southeast wind around 5 mph.
Monday: Sunny, with a high near 59. East wind around 5 mph becoming south.
Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 35.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 56.
Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 48.
Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 30.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 48.
