Mammoth Mountain Ski Area made it official on Friday, announcing the opening of its "Mammoth Mart" at The Village.
It is a new commercial tactic by the ski area, which hopes to solve the problem of a large back inventory of products, mostly clothing.
"Mammoth Mart will offer value-priced clothing, shoes, accessories and equipment from quality name brands such as Helly Hansen, Oakley, Bogner, Prada, Burton, Gravis, Orvis and more," the ski area said in a press release that was widely distributed on Friday.
"Mammoth Mart is a bargain-hunters paradise, stocking clearance inventory from favorite Mammoth stores: Mammoth Memories, Panache, Unbound, Wilderness Outfitters and McCoy Sports."
The ski area said that during the Mammoth Mart Grand Opening weekend, June 30 through July 4, each person who visits the store will receive a coupon for two-for-one Scenic Gondola rides, valid throughout the summer. Other special deals will be available weekly, the ski area said.
Mammoth Mart will also function as a summer activity headquarters, with tickets available for Scenic Gondola Rides, Mammoth Mountain Bike Park, and the Adventure Center Climb and Zip.
A free shuttle will run daily from the Village to the Adventure Center.
Mammoth Mart will open its doors at 3 p.m. on June 30 for a special sneak preview. Beginning July 1, Mammoth Mart will be open daily from nine o'clcok to six.
