A new retail outlet featuring 40 to 60 percent discounts on ski and snowboard apparel, along with some selected equipment, will open this summer in the Mountain Center in the Village, according to insiders at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area (MMSA).
The store, they said, will feature overstock items of top brands, and will be situated behind the statue of ski area founder Dave McCoy.
"A lot of stuff in the Village isn't really geared for people who live here," said one employee, who asked for anonymity until the ski area issues a press release regarding the venture.
"This is going to have stuff even we can afford."
The store, which at press time was as yet unnamed, probably also will have scooter rentals as well as an outdoor deck with sun umbrellas. It is tentatively scheduled to open July 1, just in time for the Fourth of July holiday. There is a scheduled fashion show associated with the opening, the employee said.
It will occupy the space that, during the winter, is taken up by ski and snowboard rentals. The store will revert to a rental shop toward the end of October, the employee said.
