Everybody ready?
Occupancy rates for Mammoth hotels, lodges and condos are expected to reach 63 percent of capacity this weekend, with more visitors on the way throughout the week that ramps up to the Christmas-New Year's holiday.
According to numbers supplied by Laurie Medove, lead information agent for the Visitors Bureau, visitors will fill lodges to 71 percent capacity in the weekdays following this weekend.
Projections for Christmas Week thus far have capacity at 84 percent, with 59 capacity between Jan. 2-5, Medove said.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Reno predicted snow showers leading up to and including Christmas Day.
The full forecast, as of mid-day on Thursday, Dec. 20, was as follows:
Thursday Afternoon: Periods of snow, mainly before 4pm. Temperature falling to around 19 by 5pm. West wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.
Thursday Night: Snow showers likely, mainly before 10pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 9. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming east. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 27. East wind between 5 and 15 mph.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 12. East wind between 5 and 10 mph.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west.
Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14.
Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 40.
Sunday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19.
Monday: A chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 43.
Monday Night: A slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 11.
Christmas Day: A chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 38.
Tuesday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17.
Wednesday: A chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 39.
