Mammoth Mountain Ski Area opened Canyon Lodge on Friday, Dec. 14, and snow made its way into the forecasts for next week.
Canyon Lodge connects the ski area with the Village via the Village Gondola.
With snowmaking guns going at full blast throughout the ski area, mountain officials said the ski area is now 60 percent open, with 19 lifts running over a base of 20-25 inches of snow.
June Mountain, meanwhile, will open on Saturday, with a limited number of runs open.
Tamarack Cross Country Ski Area also is open, with 19 miles of groomed trails.
As for the forecasts, the National Weather Service in Reno said on Friday that the next weather system will approach the area late Sunday night through Monday, and that a number of systems are lining up behind that one.
The Weather Service did not project snowfall amounts associated with any of the systems yet, but local forecaster Howard Sheckter said on Thursday he was "hopeful" for "a foot or two" associated with the storms.
