A strong Bay Area earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale swayed buildings in Mammoth and the Eastern Sierra on Tuesday night, Oct. 30.
The quake, whose epicenter was seven miles east of Milpitas, was centered along the Calaveras Fault, nine miles east of San Jose. It struck at 8:05 p.m.
