While Slocum's does have fine steaks, hickory smoked ribs and succulent seafood pastas, its main claim is that the happy hour (4-6 p.m.) is the best in town. Many locals would likely agree, but that is up to a great deal of interpretation. There is no question, however, that the food here is top-rate. While many of the selections don't deviate far from your standard steak house, the Caribbean pork chop with tropical papaya salsa, and smoked prime rib (available only on weekends) beg to be noticed. After almost 25 years, the centrally located Slocum's is a still a good bet for happy hour bar hoppers and those in search of excellent carnivorous Sierra cuisine.
