This often sun-drenched outdoor eatery is the closest you can get to feeling completely isolated from civilization anywhere on the mountain. The food is standard BBQ and cafeteria fare, and the views to the back of Mammoth and up north-facing Hemlock Ridge are amazing. On sunny powder days, many grab a seat on the sundeck here merely to watch Mammoth's best skiers and boarders hucking the cliffs and chutes of Hemlock Bowl, a well known backcountry-style arena that looms over the Outpost deck, and right on the edge of Mammoth's boundary line. Hamburgers and chili fries are a good bet, but if the powder lines on Hemlocks look tempting, just grab a candy bar and bottle of water and be on your way.
