Kid-Friendly Troutstock, Labor Day Events
by Mammoth Local Staff

Organizers say that one of the most important goals of Troutstock Eastern Sierra 2007, which takes place over Labor Day weekend, is to introduce families to the joys of trout fishing in the Eastern Sierra. Kids are the future of fishing and this year's Troutstock has many opportunities for young, aspiring anglers.

To encourage young participants in Troutstock Eastern Sierra 2007, anglers fifteen and under receive a discounted registration fee of $30 - a savings of $10. Additionally, no fishing license is required until the age of 16.

Troutstock Eastern Sierra is a fishing competition and festival of all things trout in Mono County. Registered anglers fish for tagged trout in 15 lakes in Mono County for a chance to win a million dollars, and over $10,000 in guaranteed cash prizes! All events, except for the fishing derby, are FREE and family friendly. Event proceeds benefit the Hot Creek Hatchery Foundation to support fish stocking programs in the State of California.

Mammoth Lakes is the center of Troutstock activities for kids. The Village at Mammoth is staging a children's fishing pond, along with kid’s fishing games, t-shirt painting and the very popular Movies Under the Stars. Kids also have the opportunity to take part in “Kidstock.” Kidstock will take place in The Village at Mammoth on Monday, September 3 at 12:00 p.m. with a chance to win $25,000 towards education with a guaranteed prize of $1,000.

Troutstock Eastern Sierra 2007 is hosting a plethora of family activities. The Village at Mammoth is hosting trout cooking demonstrations and wine pairings along with the 5th Annual Mammoth Lakes Rotary “Summer Auction.” Sam’s Woods (The Holler) is home to Mammoth’s premier art event, the 38th Annual Labor Day Festival of the Arts. This annual event includes over 110 fine artists and contemporary craftsmen, live entertainment and food.

Other family events scheduled in Mono County over Labor Day Weekend include fishing activities around the June Lake Loop, canoe tours of Mono Lake, along with other naturalist activities in Lee Vining. Bridgeport is hosting the Founder’s Day Celebration.
