What, Me Worry?

October 20, 2006

I wasn't feeling so hot this morning, which was disappointing, seeing as how this was the first day of the big "Life and Wellness" convention thing. I worried that I might not feel well enough to go, but I overrode that worry with some car-related anxieties and job stuff.

I hacked and wheezed my way through a couple of cups of coffee, read the news online, picked up a scone and another cuppa Joe at the Edisto outpost at Canyon Lodge and settled in to hear Dr. Dennis Schumacher's presentation, "Seeking Perfect Health With Traditional and Alternative Medicine."

Turns out I'd spent the entire morning killing myself.

"I see worry as the No. 1 problem," he said, after distributing a six-page handout on healthy aging. "Worry never helps. Worry never feels good."

Here's another thing:

Blueberries are great. Eat lots of them. Eat blueberries four or five times a week.

And another thing:

Don't eat peanuts. What are, you, nuts? They're awful for you, and don't let the peanuts- and-Crackerjack seamheads tell you different.

Another thing:

"When you have strong shoulders, your life is better."

And another:

"You can never make a mistake walking."

Schumacher is a great guy. He lives in Big Pine with Sydney Quinn, who's also great.

His handout is entitled "Recommendations For Using Lifestyle Changes, Nutritional Supplements And Prescription Medication To Stay Healthy Now and Greatly Increase Your Chances For Healthy Aging."

That's a title you can chew on.

I worried that the title might be too long, but quickly dismissed the worry. I replaced it with some anxiety over where to find a fresh haul of blueberries.
