Wow Tahoe, Huh?
January 17, 2006
I'm not exactly the sort to point fingers and go "nyah, nyah, nyah-nyah-nyah," but wow and holy cow, was Tahoe a mess last wekend or what?
It's weird enough here in The Mam, having a ski hill that has no problem with 20,000 skiers and boarders but sags under their weight in the town, but boy, Tahoe, huh?
The assignment couldn't have been easier: Pick a clear day after a storm, on the middle day of a three-day ski weekend (and wouldn't Dr. King have loved that?), head on down to the Bay Area and see if the Warriors might raise a little havoc with the Sonics.
Over here on the East Side, and, in fact, all the way to Luther Pass, the ride was nice.
But there was no "ride" on Rte. 50, on the way to Echo Summit.
Gridlock.
Nothing moved, up or down, for huge chunks of time.
Turned out that Sierra-at-Tahoe was letting people out, which caused a lot of the snarl, while snowplows were clearing away slush.
At Mammoth, there's no doubt that things can get a little tangled, particularly coming down off the mountain in snowy conditions, but nothing like this.
Which brings up a point about the Supersonics.
Wha' happened to these guys?
The shoot-em-up, no-pass Warriors weren't expected to do much, and they aren't, but I thought Seattle was going to do better.
Must be all the rain up there or something.
Speaking of rain, Seattle got 27 straight days of rain, which is six short of a record for consecutive days, and that might have something to do with how the Sonics are playing.
Meanwhile, Mt. Baker got nine feet of new snow in just a few days in the past week and had to close the resort " to allow all this new snow to settle out a bit," and can you believe that, huh?
Warriors won, by the way.
