Ski Area Main Lodge "Masterplan" Under Public Review

Mammoth Mountain Ski Area has a large master plan for remaking the Main Lodge Area. All the ski area needs right now to make it a go are a few people poking around the blueprints.
Without making a huge fuss, the ski area today sent out a press notice that it was hosting a series of three informational open houses to discuss plans for the redevelopment of the Main Lodge area.
The press notice said that the first open house will take place on Saturday, October 8,from 4-6 p.m. in the Mountainside Conference Center on the third floor of the Main Lodge.
Two open houses will follow on Saturday, October 29 from 4-6 p.m. and Saturday, November 19 from 4-6 p.m.
By the time those open houses come about, the public will have had a first look at the revamped Main Lodge third floor, now opened up and loaded with the kinds of amenities that were simply not a part of the Mammoth Main Lodge experience.
Meanwhile, executives at the ski area say they are increasingly nervous that its hotel facility there, the Mammoth Mountain Inn, has not kept pace with what modern ski vacationers want. They don't exactly call it a dump, but, well ... the location can't be beat.
Mammoth Mountain also operates The Yodler, a lunch and apres ski hangout that has been a part of Mammoth since the Pleistocene Era.
Suddenly, all these things are about to change. How they'll change exactly will be described at the open houses.
"The purpose of these open houses is to present the most current information on the Main Lodge Area Master Plan in the context of the overall MMSA master plan for the ski area, with particular emphasis on improving the day-use and hospitality amenities at the Main Lodge area," said Joani Lynch, communications director, in the press release.
"Informational boards will be set up at several stations, with representatives from MMSA and the US Forest Service available to answer questions and receive feedback. Attendees will be encouraged to fill out a questionnaire during their visit."
These meetings are part of a larger process, Joani said in the release.
"This meeting is taking place in advance of any Forest Service and Town of Mammoth Lakes approval processes in order to solicit community input. Feedback from the open houses will be utilized in developing a preferred alternative that will be submitted for further environmental review."
If anyone has any more questions, the deal is to contact Tom Hodges, Director of Planning, at 760-934-2571 x3243.
