Free Ride Over At Reds Meadow, Devils Postpile

June 19, 2005

Man About Town

    We know that smug look.
It's the look of people who last year used a variety of different passes to get to Reds Meadow and Devils Postpile National Monument without having to fork over more dough for the shuttle.
There was the Golden Eagle pass and the Golden Age pass. There was the Golden Access Passport. There was the National Park Pass with the Golden Eagle Hologram.
All of them were good for Reds Meadow, which, according to the U.S. Forest Service, will open for business on June 29 (see yesterday's post).
But this year, the Smugsters are just like the rest of us.
Nancy Upham of the Forest Service announced Friday night that none of the aforementioned passes are going to work for Reds Meadow (Devils Postpile) this year.
“Because of requirements of the new Recreation Enhancement Act,” she said in a press release, “the Inyo National Forest will no longer accept (them) for free access on the Reds Meadow shuttle.”
So reach for your wallet, Smugsters.
The price of Reds Meadow day passes stays at $7 for adults and  $4 for kids ages 3-15. Season passes stay at $35 for adults and $20 for kids.
